It’s not lost on me how fortunate I am to live in a place where we can do a family session on the beach in January! Sure, it’s a little chilly…but at least we aren’t sweating through our clothes!

I photograph this handsome guy and his parents every January and it’s the best way to start off the year. This year we headed out to St. Pete Beach and had the best time. One thing I can count on when photographing these three- SMILES..all the smiles and endless amounts of joy. Whether we were climbing on the rocks, digging in the sand, playing by the water, or riding on Dad’s shoulders, every moment felt like the best moment.

And this is what your family session should be. It’s about making memories and documenting your child’s personality. That means letting them be a kid during your session. Sure, we will get a beautiful family portrait of everyone looking and smiling, but other than that it’s all about creating memories and documenting the beautiful connection of your family.

Not only are these the types of moments your children will remember, but they are also the ones you’ll want to remember too. As a mom of two (and after photographing hundreds of sessions), I know just how stressful family portraits can be. I also know they don’t have to be.
