One of the questions we get asked most often is whether dogs are allowed in the studio—especially for newborn or family sessions. The answer is always: absolutely, yes.
If you’ve been around our studio for any length of time, you know how much we love our furry friends. We’re big believers that dogs are family. And if we’re photographing your family, it only makes sense they’re part of it too.
Since moving into our new studio almost a year ago, we’ve had the honor of photographing so many amazing sessions that included dogs. The space is large, open, and fully enclosed, which makes it perfect for including pets—especially during the summer months when outdoor sessions can feel too hot. Whether your dog is shy or full of energy, they’ll have space to sniff around and settle in while you enjoy a relaxed, low-stress session.
As a Tampa family photographer, I know how challenging it can be to get everyone in one place, ready and relaxed for photos. That’s why we offer a full-service experience—professional hair and makeup, wardrobe styling, and a studio that’s prepped for everything (yes, even a little shedding fur or water bowl spills). You simply show up, and we take care of the rest.
We truly believe your dog belongs in your family photos—because they’re part of the family. These images become keepsakes, not just for you, but for your children too. Years from now, they’ll see that framed portrait on the wall and remember the dog they grew up with, tail wagging, right by their side.
That said, not every dog is the same, and it’s important to consider if the studio setting is right for them—especially during newborn sessions. If you’re planning to bring your dog, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Let Us Know in Advance
We love dogs, but we also love being prepared. Let us know before your session if your dog will be joining you. We’ll want to know their name, any commands they respond well to, and anything else that will help us make the experience go smoothly for you and them.
Come Prepared
Bring treats and a plan! Once your dog is done with their part of the session, you’ll want to have someone available to take them home or keep them settled off-camera. This helps us maintain a calm environment, especially during milestone or newborn sessions.
Trust the Process
Like babies, dogs don’t always follow instructions—and that’s okay. We’ll guide you through it. Sometimes it takes a little patience (and a squeaky toy or two), but we’ll get the shot. Trust us. It’s always worth it.
One of our favorite recent examples is Lemon and Slice, two sweet pups who’ve been part of every session during their baby sister’s Collective Membership—including maternity, newborn, and six-month portraits. Watching them grow alongside her and be part of each milestone has been such a gift to photograph. That kind of continuity is what makes custom photography so meaningful.
So if you’ve been thinking about booking a session this summer and want to include your furry family members, now is the perfect time. Kids are out of school, the studio is cool and comfortable, and your pets can be part of the memories—without any of the stress.
At Brittany Elise Photography, we’re a full-service Tampa photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, family, and senior portraits—and we’re here for your whole crew, paws and all.
