As a family photographer, I know that there is really no such thing as “naturally posing” children – especially babies and toddlers. The key to great family photos is candid moments and authentic shots. And the best way to get those is to put the kids in their element by letting them do what comes naturally: playing, exploring, and cuddling with Mom and Dad. I love outdoor sessions for this very reason. It gives families space to spend quality time together. Although this method may seem less efficient and organized, it really isn’t. Why spend an hour trying to manipulate toddlers into poses they don’t like when you can get an hour of remarkable, real-life shots by letting them play. Just look at these happy kiddos! There’s nothing more beautiful than the genuine laughter of a child.

The Valenti’s live in Tampa with their two precious children and enjoy spending time outside together, so I knew an outdoor session would fit their style and personality perfectly. Olivia is ten months old and Joseph is two and a half years old in these photos. Both of them were so happy throughout the entire session and such a pleasure to photograph. I could not believe baby girl was already walking after her big brother like a pro, even on the slightly uneven terrain. She must have learned early so she could keep up with him! Together, these two little explorers kept their parents on the move.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day for their expedition. That evening, we found an open grassy spot surrounded by huge shade trees. The soft sunlight peered through the branches and cast a beautiful glow on the scene. They had a wonderful time making memories and soaking up the fresh air!
